Turning Japanese...I ReallyThink So....

This week we ventured into Little Tokyo.  It doesn't look like much from the street side view (we should have taken a picture of that), just a little parking lot on a very busy street surrounded by small shops, street vendors, and bus stops.  Uninviting looking, really.  But when you walk around the corner, you see the pergola sign which leads to a quaint path of orange pavers which take you to a pretty outdoor courtyard area with tables, chairs, and doors that lead to the 8 - 10 authentic Japanese restaurants.

Great little foot bridge leading into the courtyard.

It was great watching the chefs prepare the food.

Although not quite brave enough for the sashimi yet, we love the tempura and maki rolls.  A new staple in our home will be Japanese mayo and teriyaki sauce mixed together.  Yum!

We also found a new restaurant that just opened a few weeks ago called Kitchen 1B.  We stopped for breakfast on our way to the Legaspi Sunday Market and waited out the rain there.  The menus are all digital, the chefs work in an open kitchen, so you can watch them, and the décor is eclectic.  We will definitely go back to this one.  The couple next to us ordered the garlic popcorn and put some in a bowl for us to try at our table; it was delicious!  We had a late breakfast of oatmeal and waffles and then headed off to the market when the rain stopped.

Digital menu for each guest.

Open kitchen with great ambiance.

We love the chair slipcovers!  Very homey!

Toast shaped coasters :)

Delicious oatmeal with berries, nuts, and honey.

Local coffee we bought at the market after breakfast!  Yum!

It's been a pretty tasty week!

     Until Next Time,
     Eric and Kim :)
