About Us

We are Eric and Kim Nickerson, and a couple of years ago, we would have never expected to be writing a blog from the Philippines.  However, things don't always turn out as envisioned!  That's what makes life exciting!  Eric is an engineer and Kim is a high school English teacher, and we have lived pretty conventional lives up to this point.  When we first met, we often talked about how much we both wanted to include travel in our lives, and when we decided that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, we had the perfect (albeit unexpected) opportunity to explore this dream. 

After two years of dating (nine months of which was long distance between Dallas and Afghanistan) and five months of engagement, we moved up our wedding date by a month so that we could take advantage of a unique opportunity - to live in Makati, Philippines, for one year. We were married on May 25th, 2014,  Eric headed to southeast Asia on May 28th, and Kim followed about six weeks later. Neither of us knew what to expect, and this blog is our way of documenting our experience and keeping friends and family up-to-date on our adventures.  We are truly figuring things out as we go along.

Eric's four children were central in the decision-making process of this adventure, and their support is immeasurably appreciated by both of us.  In fact, they will, hopefully, be making a trip over sometime this year to experience the Philippines first hand!
