Day Trip! Mall of Asia

We have heard a lot about the Mall of Asia in Manila, and it's one of the places we had planned on going when we first got here, but we kept brushing it aside for other activities.  Last weekend we finally made it out there, and we are SO glad that we did!  It's about a 30 minute cab ride from our apartment in Makti to the mall.  First of all, the mall is H-U-G-E!  It has every store you could imagine and even more we've never heard of from high-end to bargain basement.  When we first arrived, we were greeted by this:
The Mall of Asia has its own MARHING BAND!!!!  <3  So FUN!!   Could have listened to them all afternoon!

We wandered around the mall for a while and taste-tested several sweets that local companies were displaying for a special weekend event.  Lucky us!  Timing is everything!  We watched ice skaters for a while, and then we made our way out toward the bay.  A quaint little amusement park area lies just between the mall itself and Manila Bay.  Manila Bay is known for its breathtaking sunsets, but were not lucky enough to see one this night.  It was pretty rainy and stormy, and dark, ominous clouds grayed the sky.  Hopefully, we will go back again to see one of these world-renowned sunsets.

We wandered down the boardwalk for a bit before heading inside.  The boardwalk was clean and brimming with people, even under the gray skies.  Restaurants and bars lined the walkway, and at night they all come alive.  During the day these establishments are pretty quiet.
Ferris Wheel and other small rides during the rainstorm.
Cool fountain....when it's not raining.

Water was a little rough.  Lots of boats on the horizon.

We are getting a little better at taking selfies.  Maybe we need one of those selfie sticks that you put your phone/camera in and hold out in front of you.  :)

The board walk is quite long.  Lots of people sitting on top watching the waves.  A cool little spot.
This is the entrance that faces the bay.  The street is lined with palm trees.

We stopped on the veranda for dinner at a Korean BBQ place.

Our table overlooked the bay....pretty cool.

Pickled radish, sweet potatoes, salad, corn, pumpkin salad, and, of course, kimchee - the six sides that come with each entrée.  SIX SIDES?  Who knew??  And they are all refillable....  What?!

Seafood dumplings.  Yum!  One of our most favorite meals to date. We forgot to take a picture of our Korean bbq ribs, but they were yummy, too.!  I guess we were just WAAYYY into our food.

Our evening was capped off with a short fireworks show we could see rom our dinner table.

Lasted about ten minutes, and people crowded the veranda to watch.  They do fireworks every weekend.

All-in-all it was a great day and evening!

Until next time!
